Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Mualem made a phone call on Monday morning with his Lebanese counterpart Ali al-Shami with regard to the attack against a Syrian bus Monday morning in northern Lebanon which killed a Syrian citizen and injured several others, the official SANA news agency reported.

The minister demanded on the phone call that Lebanese authority investigate the attack to identify the criminals and those who are behind them and inform Syria the result as soon as possible, the report said.

Lebanese media reported that a Syrian bus with 25 passengers was attacked by unknown assailants at 2:30 a.m. (GMT 0030) on the road between Tripoli and Akkar in northern Lebanon and a Syrian citizen was killed in the attack.

The attack came just a day after Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri finished his two-day visit to Damascus on Saturday, which he described as a "historic and good" visit.

"We want good, honest relations with Syria. We want a good future for the two peoples in order to raise the relations whether on the political, commercial or the economic fields," Hariri said in a press conference before leaving Syria.
