Visiting French Prime Minister Francois Fillon said on Saturday the international community will seek new measures on Iran's nuclear issue in coming weeks "if the situation is not changed."
At the joint press conference here with his Syrian counterpart Mohammad Naji Otri, Fillon said "we have read the new report (on Iran) by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and it is very worrying."
"We proposed dialogue to Iran for several months and for the moment all propositions have been turned down. If the situation does not change, we have no other solution but to look into new measures made by the UN Security Council in the coming weeks," Filion said.
However, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem on Saturday expressed his concern about sanctions against Iran during his meeting with his Austrian counterpart Michael Spindelegger, saying sanction is not the best way to solve the problem.
The IAEA on Thursday expressed its concern that Iran may currently try to develop a nuclear payload for a missile.
The information is carried in a leaked confidential report by the Vienna-based IAEA. It also confirmed that Iran had begun enriching uranium to higher levels.
The French prime minister arrived in Damascus on Friday evening, starting his two-day official visit to Syria.
