Yemen police nab 27 suspects over sabotage, crimes: report

Yemeni police arrested 27 suspects over sabotage charges and criminal counts in three southern provinces, the country's Interior Ministry reported on Monday.

The suspects were arrested in Lahij, Abyan and al-Dhalee provinces, the ministry said in a report posted on its website. Yet, it did not provide the specific date of the arrests.

According to the report, 13 wanted people were captured in al- Hawta, the capital city of the southern province of Lahij, over their involvement in riots, chaos and vandalizing acts against public and private properties.

In southern province of Abyan, security forces detained eight others in connection with a spate of robberies, burglaries and murders, said the report.

In al-Dhalee province, six outlaws were arrested for involvement in acts of sabotage and shooting at security officers. They also took part in unauthorized demonstrations against the unity of Yemen, the report quoted police sources as saying.

The ministry, in the statement, vowed to continue to hunt down all wanted people in the three provinces until they are brought to justice.

Northern and southern Yemen were united in 1990 according to a deal between the People's General Congress and the Yemeni Socialist Party. However, there are some voices in the south calling for disengagement from the north recently.
