A 14-year-old girl was killed by Iranian artillery fire in border areas in Iraq's Kurdish north, a security source said on Sunday.

Basouz Jabbar Agha was killed by the Iranian artillery fire in Wizi village in the Choman border area in Arbil province, the source from the Kurdish border guard told reporters.

The artillery fire, which also caused material damages, continued for two hours on Saturday evening and started again for several hours this morning, the source said.

Iranian troops frequently pounded the mountainous Iraq-Iran border areas targeting the Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK) militants, an Iranian anti-government Kurdish group which allegedly is sheltering in the Iraq's Kurdish region.

PJAK has been accused by Iran of carrying out numerous attacks against the Iranian troops in western Iran. Iran believes that PJAK has close ties to the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and is sheltering in the mountainous region of northern Iraq.
