Iran to submit letter to IAEA

Iran will submit another letter to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Monday, briefing the latest developments with the uranium swap agreement, Turkish foreign minister said in Istanbul on Sunday.

"Iran notified us that they will submit a letter to the IAEA tomorrow morning," Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said after a trilateral meeting between him, his Brazilian counterpart Celso Amorim, and the Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, the first meeting of the three foreign ministers after the Tehran Declaration was inked on May 18.

Iran, in the letter, is expected to reaffirm its commitment to meeting the Vienna Group (U.S., France, Russia and the IAEA), regarding the uranium swap detailed in the Tehran Declaration, Davutoglu said, adding during the lunch meeting Iran also reiterated commitment to meeting the P5+1 (the five permanent security council members plus Germany), concerning a diplomatic solution to its nuclear program.

Davutoglu said "there is a general understanding that such a meeting will be held in Istanbul, and Turkey is ready to provide any assistance it can."

The security council voted for sanctions against Iran soon after the declaration had been signed, which was voted against by non-permanent members Turkey and Brazil.

Davutoglu reaffirmed Turkey's commitment to solving the Iranian nuclear issue peacefully, saying the purpose of the Tehran agreement was to pave the way for diplomacy.

"The Tehran Declaration does not solve every problem, but it lays the foundation for a diplomatic solution," he said.
