The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will always support Egypt and its people at the critical moment for the country, President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan said Monday.

Sheikh Khalifa made the remarks during a meeting with the visiting Egyptian Prime Minister Essam Sharaf at his palace in Al Ain, a city located approximately 160 km east of the capital Abu Dhabi, the state news agency WAM reported.

"The UAE-Egypt relations have always been a model for brotherly relations in various circumstances, and the regional and international political scenes," he said.

The two countries' ties have a long history, the president added.

"Changes in the political arena in Egypt would boost the confidence and optimism about Egypt's faithful people to perpetuate its leading and pivotal role both on regional and international levels, and will embody at the same time the strategic depth between the fraternal countries in the Arab world, " Shaikh Khalifa said.

He expressed his wishes for Egypt to overcome the critical phase in its history with determination and resolve in order to regain its position among other countries in the region and the world.

The UAE leadership, government and people will continue to support the Egyptian leadership and people in all matters, due to the UAE's strong belief in the important role and strategic position of Egypt in creating a regional and international balance, Shaikh Khalifa said.

For his part, Sharaf expressed his confidence that the bilateral relations between both countries will grow stronger in various fields in the future.

During the meeting, the two leaders also discussed recent political developments in Egypt.

Sharaf was heading a high level delegation that included a number of ministers and senior officials, according to WAM.
