The Republic of Congo would send mediators to try to put an end to the crisis in Chad Tuesday, a senior Congolese official said Monday, according to reports from the Congolese capital of Brazzaville.
Basile Ikouebe, minister of foreign affairs and French affairs of the Republic of Congo, told a press conference Monday that a delegation composed of military and foreign officials would set off Tuesday to seek peaceful solutions to the fighting between the government and the rebels in Chad.
The delegation would go to Tripoli first to consult with the Libyan government before going to Chad's capital of N'Djamena for dialogs with all sides involved in Chad's conflict.
They would try to convince the concerned parties to abandon the use of force and start constructive dialogues so as to find a solution to the crisis, he said.
Congo's decision was in response to a request by the African Union, which asked Libya and Congo to help mediate the Chadian crisis at its recent summit.
