UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon was alarmed Tuesday by the latest grenade attacks in Burundi.

In a statement released by his spokesperson, Ban said he is very concerned by the simultaneous grenade attacks in Bujumbura on the homes of 4 Burundian Parliamentarians on Saturday.

He called on the national authorities to continue to give this serious incident the attention it deserves and to bring the perpetrators to justice without delay.

Ban also reminded the government of its obligation to protect all Burundian citizens.

The secretary-general urged the government of Burundi and all political leaders to work together through the national democratic institutions to ease the current tensions, adding that he will continue to monitor the situation in Burundi very closely.
