Cote d'Ivoire's former rebel group New Forces on Friday resumed the disarmament process in the central city of Bouake, local media reported.

Some 1,000 combatants of the Armed Forces of New Forces (FAFN) proceeded to the redeployment, a pilot phase of disarmament, in Bouake, a stronghold of the former rebel group, the national television reported.

According to Soumaila Bakayoko, chief of FAFN, a total of 43,000 troops will be involved in the five-month operation.

During the redeployment, some ex-combatants will be integrated into the national army and others will be demobilized under the program of national civil service.
