The Sudanese Police announced on Sunday that a curfew imposed in Khartoum following a violent fighting between army troops and rebels coming from Darfur on the outskirts of the Sudanese capital on Saturday afternoon was indefinitely extended.
Spokesman of the Sudanese Police Mohamed Abdul-Majeed said that the curfew was extended "till further notice".
He referred to existence of rebel remnants in a number of residential areas in Omdurman Area in northwestern Khartoum, adding that corpses of killed rebels and arms and explosives were being collected.
The Sudanese government announced on Saturday evening that the army and the police had crushed the attempt of the rebels to infiltrate into the capital and carry out sabotage activities there, killing and capturing a number of the infiltrators.
This was the first time for rebels in Darfur to enter Khartoum and launch attacks there since bloody conflicts erupted in the western Sudanese region in February 2003.
