Nine Algerian soldiers were killed by Islamic militants in two separate attacks, El Khabar daily newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Six soldiers died on late Sunday when they were ambushed in the northern province of Medea by militants of al-Qaeda's branch in the Islamic Maghreb, according to the report.
Witnesses said the militants seized uniforms and weapons and then escaped.
The other three soldiers were killed in an ambush east of Meade on Monday when they were patrolling the region.
The group linked to al-Qaida, whose former name was Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat, has been listed as one of Algeria's major terrorist groups and has planned most of the terrorist attacks in the country.
Official figures showed that some 150,000 people have been killed in terrorist violence since the early 1990s. The domestic security situation of Algeria has improved in recent years, with sporadic terrorist attacks reported in some parts of the country.
