The Zimbabwe Republic Police has said the number of political violence cases are declining throughout the country and the situation is returning to normal, the state media New Ziana reported on Friday.
Police spokesperson Oliver Mandipaka said the force would continue to work towards peace in the run-up to the presidential election run-off on June 27.
"The situation is now returning to normal as incidences of politically-motivated violence have gone down," said Mandipaka.
The ruling party the Zanu-PF accuses the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) youths of perpetrating violence against its supporters while the MDC also makes the same allegations against Zanu-PF.
Meanwhile, the Multi-Party Liaison Committee was expected to sit on Friday to discuss how parties could work together to reduce violence.
The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has also urged civic organizations already accredited to conduct voter education to encourage the electorate to be peaceful during and after the run-off. Source: Xinhua
