Zimbabwe's Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) said on Thursday it will not launch a campaign for the presidential run-off scheduled for June 27 since the slender lead it garnered in the first round assures it of victory.
Spokesperson Nelson Chamisa told the state news agency New Ziana that the party and its supporters would not campaign for the forthcoming election as it would merely confirm them as winners.
"We campaigned before the March 29 elections," said Chamisa. "We are not going to have another campaign for the run-off because we are busy celebrating," he said.
MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai will battle it out with President Robert Mugabe of ZANU-PF in the June 27 presidential run-off.
Both candidates failed to garner the 50 percent plus vote the law required to be declared winner in the first round of voting. Tsvangirai secured 47,.9 percent while President Mugabe had 43. 2 percent.
