South African Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka has commended community members of Masiphumelele in the Western Cape for spreading the message of reintegration after the township was subject to xenophobic violence.
"The story of Masiphumelele needs to be told to the rest of the country so that others can learn and do the same," the South African Press Association quoted Mlambo-Ngcuka as saying on Saturday..
Community members and leaders in the area collected stolen goods and "spread the message of reintegration" after the area was affected by violence on foreign nationals, spokesman Denzil Taylor said.
Mlambo-Ngcuka together with other government officials on Friday visited the township of Masiphumelele near Fish Hoek as well as nearby Du Noon and Khayelitsha.
She thanked the community, the volunteers, NGOs and police for having helped the foreign nationals after xenophobic attacks erupted in the area earlier this month. Source: Xinhua
