Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has held talks with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon on the sidelines of the World Food Conference in Rome, Italy, local media ZBC News reported on Wednesday.
Ban said the world body is keen to see the forthcoming presidential run-off in Zimbabwe will be held in a peaceful environment, according to the report.
He also said the UN would like to send an envoy to Zimbabwe and southern Africa to access Zimbabwe's technical requirements for the election and wanted to know whether Zimbabwe would accept the request.
Mugabe said that the UN Secretary General could give assistance to economic blocks such as the Southern Africa Development Community and the Economic Community of the West African States and other African groups but anything that smells British or American will not be tolerated and allowed, according to the report.
