About 150 illegal immigrants drowned after their boat sank off the Libyan shore while en route to Italy, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported on Monday.

Most of the illegal immigrants, including at least 50 Egyptians, died after the boat capsized in the Mediterranean on June 7, Egyptian Consul in Tripoli Adham Hilal was quoted as saying.

Only two Egyptians and one Bangladesh citizen survived, he said.

The passengers on board also include citizens from Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and other African states, said Hilal, adding the Egyptian consulate was trying to get more information about the victims.

According to earlier report, 40 people has been confirmed dead and about 100 others are still missing.

The Libyan authorities have recovered 40 bodies but it's difficult to identify them.
