Norway commits $3 bln to cope with climate change in east, south Africa |

Norway will spend approximately 3 billion U.S. dollars to support the efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change in eastern and southern Africa, Times of Zambia reported on Thursday.
Norwegian Ambassador to Zambia Tore Gjos was quoted as saying that his government was committed to supporting the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) in tackling issues of poverty and climate change in the region.
Gjos disclosed that the fund would help address various issues pertaining to climate change effects as well as deforestation, adding that dealing with forestry management and agriculture issues would go a long way in mitigating climate change effects.
COMESA Interim Secretary General, Sindiso Ngwenya, said Norway's support would benefit the whole region.
Ngwenya also said integrating policies and measures that addressed issues of climate change would mitigate the effects on food production.
