Two French Journalists escaped an abduction attempt in the northeastern semiautonomous region of Puntland, after local forces repulsed the gunmen, local media reports said Monday.

The two French journalists, whose identity were not immediately clear, were in Bossaso, the commercial capital of the region, to make a documentary film about the region, Radio Shabelle in Mogadishu reported.

Gunmen attacked the hotel where the journalists stayed in Bossaso after they returned from filming in the city. Local police forces that were guarding them repulsed the assailants and rescued the foreign journalists.
