The European Union (EU) has agreed to provide funds for agricultural development in south Madagascar, local media reported on Tuesday.
EU representative to Madagascar, Jean-Claude Boidin, told a meeting here on Monday that EU had already selected six pilot areas in the south for sustainable agricultural development.
EU would provide a total grant of 500,000 to 2 million Euros for the projects in the first three years of experience, Boidin informed the responsible agencies and the media.
He asked the Madagascan government to monitor the use of the funds wisely and beneficiaries to make their contribution.
As a tool for long-term financial needs of producers, the assistance would also support agricultural service centers, which provide technical support to farmers.
