Japan and France have jointly rehabilitated a neonatal and paediatric center, which was handed over to the Madagascan government on Friday, according to a broadcast of Madagascar National Radio.
The Japanese government donated 129 million Malagasy Ariaries (MGA) (about 81,200 U.S. dollars) for rehabilitation of the center at Befelatanana Hospital here while France provided all the necessary equipments valued at 644 million MGA.
At a hand-over ceremony on Friday morning, Japanese Ambassador to Madagascar, Kawaguchi Tetsuro, and French Ambassador to Madagascar, Gildas Le Lidec, promised to continue their support to Madagascar in children care.
Madagascan Minister of Health and Family Planning, Dr. Ralainirina Paul Richard, said at the ceremony that the Madagascan government would make more efforts to improve maternal and children health so as to reduce their mortality rates.
He appreciated the strong partnership between Madagascar, France and Japan, which helps the Indian ocean island country to improve its people's health.
Japan has already helped Madagascar construct a mother-child hospital in Mahajanga, 608 km northwest of Antananarivo, a laboratory in the Ambohimiandra hospital in the capital among others. (1 U.S. dollar = 1595 MGA) Source: Xinhua
