Former South African president Nelson Mandela has instructed his lawyers to take urgent legal action against a gallery in London for selling artworks associated with his name, his lawyers said on Friday.
Mandela had instructed law firm Chuene Incorporated to make it known that he disassociated himself with the exhibition of artwork to be exhibited at the Belgravia Gallery in London on July 15, said Bally Chuene in a statement.
"Furthermore Mr. Mandela has given us instruction to take urgent, appropriate steps against Belgravia Gallery to stop any marketing, distribution and selling of artwork associated with his name," read the statement.
Chuene was not immediately available for any further comment.
The Nelson Mandela Foundation said Chuene was Mandela's personal attorney.
"He is dealing with a long standing legal issue," said chief executive officer Achmat Dangor.
