Moroccan King Mohammed VI will not attend the inaugural summit of the Union for the Mediterranean in Paris but his brother Prince Moulay Rachid is going on his behalf, a government-related source said Saturday.
The king decided not to attend the summit on Sunday because of other commitments, the source said.
The summit, an initiative spearheaded by French President Nicolas Sarkozy to realize his vision for harmony and prosperity around the Mediterranean, will attract more than 40 heads of state and government from the European Union and Mediterranean as well as representatives of a number of regional and international organizations.
It will discuss a host of issues such as economic development, food security, energy, environment protection, education, culture and political dialogue. Source:Xinhua
