Zimbabwe's United Parties said this week it can make a meaningful contribution to talks on forming the national government, according to local media New Ziana on Sunday.

The African Union endorsed South African President Thabo Mbekito broker the talks between the ruling Zanu PF and the opposition Movement for Democratic Change. United Parties administration secretary Aliphios Mapuranga said all political parties in the country could enhance the chances of striking a deal. "The talks should include all political stakeholders in the country," said Mapuranga. "The government of national unity should meet the aspirations of all people."

He was hopeful that more could be done to improve the living conditions of the people of Zimbabwe during the post-election era.

The talks between Zanu PF and MDC underway in South Africa were expected to forge a government of national unity to boost economic recovery.

Mbeki was confident that people of Zimbabwe could find a solution to their woes.

Observers said there was room for stakeholders to come up with a solution. However.
