Sudan on Monday slammed the International Criminal Court (ICC) prosecutor's call to arrest President Omar al-Bashir, calling it an attempt to undermining Sudan's peace process and inhibiting its development.
Ali el-Sadeq, the Sudanese Foreign Ministry's spokesman said that the ICC attempt to indict Bashir on crimes against humanity is mainly aimed at undermining Sudan's peace process and inhibiting its development and democratic transformation drive.
The ICC move, in total disregard of the efforts taken by the Sudanese government, the regional powers and international community on the issues of Darfur, could threaten the already fragile peace process in the Darfur region, warned the spokesman.
Earlier on Monday, the ICC Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo formally requested an arrest warrant against Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur. Source:Xinhua
