Sudanese Council of the States strongly denounced at an extraordinary meeting of Committee of the Council's Affairs the move of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to indict its senior officials, Sudanese official news agency SUNA reported Monday.

According to earlier reports, the ICC Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo Monday formally requested an arrest warrant against Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur.

Chairmen of the council's committees, its Secretary General and Legal Advisor attended Monday's meeting. Members of the Council of States expressed their absolute rejection to the ICC move by saying it poses a violation of Sudan sovereignty.

They also condemned the intervention in Sudanese domestic affairs, and expected Darfur issue can be solved internally. They called for speeding efforts to solve Darfur issue toward aborting the conspiracy of the ICC prosecutor.

The meeting described the moves against the senior Sudanese officials as insult to the nation and its will. The Council of the States praised the stance of all political parties in support of the national unity government, and their rejection to the recent statements which were targeting Sudan's sovereignty.

In the same day, Sudanese Vice President Ali Othman Mohammed Taha told a press conference that the ICC move is a politically-motivated one against Sudan instead of a legal one.

Meanwhile, The Committee of the Assembly's Affairs of the National Assembly of Sudan chaired by the Speaker Ahmed Ibrahim Al-Tahir echoed the rejection of ICC accusations on Monday, adding that Sudanese National Assembly is to hold an emergency meeting on Wednesday to discuss the movements of ICC, according to SUNA.
