Algeria Tuesday termed as "unacceptable" the International Criminal Court (ICC) chief prosecutor's call to arrest Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on charges of genocide.

Luis Moreno-Ocampo's demand for the ICC panel to indict al-Bashir would undermine Sudan's stability and security, Algerian Minister of State Abu Jarra Sultani said in a statement.

He also called for dialog between Sudan's political parties to solve all issues by themselves.

Moreno-Ocampo Monday formally requested an arrest warrant against al-Bashir for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity in Sudan's western region of Darfur.

It was the first time for The Hague-based court to be asked to charge a sitting head of state.
