The Central Council of the Federation of the Arab Trade Unions (CCFATU) will hold an international trade unionist meeting in Khartoum next month in order to support Sudan in confronting charges of the International Criminal Court (ICC) against the Sudanese president.
The meeting would be attended by representatives from the International Trade Unions Federation, Organization of African Trade Unions Unity and trade unions in African, Latin American andAsian countries.
The decision was made during an emergency meeting of the CCFATU at the premise of the Sudan Workers Trade Unions Federation (SWTUF)on Thursday.
The leadership of the Sudanese trade unionist movement stressed the importance of continuation of mobilizing its memberships to thwart the ICC indictment against Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir which it claims as having no legal basis.
ICC Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo on Monday formally requested the arrest warrant against al-Bashir, charging him of war crimes, including genocide, in the western Sudanese region of Darfur.
It was the first time that the Hague-based ICC was asked to charge a sitting head of state, a move decried by Khartoum as undermining peace efforts in the region.
Moreover, SWTUF Chairman Ibrahim Ghandour stressed the importance of solving the Darfur issue by its people, urging the arms holders to resort to wisdom.
