A senior Egyptian official on Tuesday reiterated his country's stance to support a political settlement to the crisis in the western Sudanese region of Darfur, the official MENA news agency reported.

A political compromise is the best way to end the crisis in the restive Sudanese region, Egyptian Minister of Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Moufed Shehab was quoted as saying.

Egypt is keen on putting an end to the conflicts in Darfur in a bid to reach comprehensive peace in Sudan, said Shehab.

Referring to the current dispute between Sudan and the International Criminal Court (ICC), Shehab stressed Egypt's stand in support of Sudan and its president.

Egypt is exerting all its political and diplomatic efforts to settle the crisis triggered by ICC chief prosecutor, added the Egyptian minister.

On July 14, ICC Chief Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo formally requested an arrest warrant against Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir for alleged war crimes in Darfur, which was strongly refuted by the Sudanese government.

On Thursday, Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Nazef renewed his country's rejection to the call of Moreno-Ocampo to arrest al-Bashir, saying Egypt is fully committed to supporting the Sudanese people and protecting the unity and stability of Sudan.
