A civilian convoy was attacked in the western Sudanese region of Darfur, leaving six dead and 28 others injured, the joint United Nations-African Union peacekeeping mission said Wednesday.
The attack occurred Monday when unidentified gunmen on camels ambushed seven civilian vehicles that were traveling from Nyala, capital of Sudan's South Darfur state, to El Fasher in North Darfur, the mission, known as UNAMID, said in a statement.
UNAMID helicopters evacuated eight of the injured to a private hospital in El Fasher, with the bulk of the remaining casualties being evacuated to Nyala, said the statement.
