Nigerian President Umaru Yar' Adua has reiterated the determination of his administration to ensure good governance in the country, according to the News Agency of Nigeria Saturday.

Yar' Adua gave the assurance on Friday in Abuja as he attended a ceremony of the launching of a book, "Brain Gain for African Renaissance: Issues in Governance".

He said his administration had demonstrated a commitment to good governance through improvements in public finance management, reforms in electoral laws and commitment to the rule of law.

"These initiatives are all geared toward giving the country a sense of direction and purpose," he said.

The president said Nigeria would remain at the forefront of Africa Renaissance just as it strives for global peace and socio-economic development.

He pointed out that within the nation's foreign policy trust of citizen diplomacy, Nigeria would champion the goals of NEPAD while deepening its roles in continental and global affairs.

Yar'Adua added that the government had introduced policies and programs aimed at repositioning Nigeria's leadership role in ECOWAS and the African Union.
