The United Nation on Thursday in the Cross River state's capital Calabar reiterated its commitment to the follow up of development events at the handing-over ceremony of Bakassi Peninsular.
Kieoan Prendergast, UN Secretary General's Representative, who also serves as the chairman of follow-up commission on Bakassi told Xinhua that the UN will support proper administration of the region.
He said the handover event is a triumph for the rule of law in the history of Africa and the world at large.
According to him, the UN expects the signing to increase the bilateral agreement between Nigeria and Cameroon, adding that both governments should work very hard on this.
Nigeria has honored the ruling of an international tribunal and took a bold step to hand it over despite pressures from some people.
"I think a lot of countries that has similar cases should borrow a leaf from Nigeria, so that peace can reign. As human beings we should learn how to manage change in events," he said. Source: Xinhua
