The Foreigners and Migration Service of Angola (SME) repatriated 87 foreigners of various nationalities who were residing illegally in Angola's eastern Moxico province in the past six months, a SME official said on Thursday.
Costa Fernando, director of SME Analysis and Information Office in Moxico province, told reporters that among the repatriated foreigners, 77 were from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, seven from Zambia, two from Zimbabwe and one Namibian.
Moxico province shares a 1,077 km long common border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia. The 87 illegal immigrants who dreamed to cross the border to reach Angola's capital Luanda to find a well-paid job were deported at the border posts of Luau, Gimbi and Karipande.
After the 27-year civil war ended in 2002, Angola has become a country whose economy has been increasing drastically with the percapita gross domestic product increased from 857 U.S. dollars in 2002 to more than 3,500 dollars in 2007, hence a target country for many poor people in the neighboring countries.
