Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia Amusaa Mwanamwambwa has suspended the business of the Housein definitely and urged Members of Parliament (MPs) to join the nation in being calm, courageous and prayerful following President Levy Mwanawasa's death, according to Zambia Daily Mail Wednesday.
Mwanamwambwa said that "as all of you know, this is a very sorrowful and sad time for our country and the nation and I, therefore, request all of you to join the nation in being calm, courageous and prayerful."
He said the executive would give further details on this matter.
He suspended the business of the House until further notice to allow the nation to prepare for the state funeral.
Mwanawasa died Tuesday morning in the Percy Military Hospital in Paris in France after being hospitalized there for more than a month.
Mwanawasa, who would turn 60 in several months, suffered a stroke on June 29 in Sharm-el-Sheik, Egypt, where he was to attend the African Union summit. He was admitted into Sharm-el-Sheik International Hospital and transferred on July 1 to the Percy Military Hospital in Paris. Source:Xinhua
