Britain has expressed its readiness to collaborate with Nigeria for the development of the nation's energy sector, reported by Channels TV news on Wednesday.
Malcolm Wicks, British secretary of Energy, stated this in Abuja on Tuesday at meeting with Nigeria's minister of energy Odein Ajumogobia and observed that many countries around the world are wasting energy when it is actually in high demand across the globe.
The British energy secretary said they were also concerned with oil and gas production, ending gas flaring, and restructuring of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
He advocated for greater energy efficiency, noting that Britain's crude oil production has fallen from 3 million barrels per day to the current 1.6 million barrel per day.
Nigeria' s Minster of State for Energy (Petroleum), Odein Ajumogobia said both countries are exploring opportunities to manage demand and supply and also conserve energy.
He said the meeting was a follow up to an earlier meeting between President Yar'Adua and Gordon Brown.
He said other areas of focus include increasing direct investment, sustainable development, global warming and cargo storage.
The meeting also discussed how both countries can increase oil production in the short term.
