U.S Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arrived, on Saturday night, in Tunis, where is her second stop as part of a tour of the Arab Maghreb states, the Egyptian news agency MENA reported on Saturday.
The report said that Rice came from Tripoli, capital of Libya. That is the first stop of her North-Africa tour, where she arrived on Friday and had a landmark meeting with Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi.
Rice was the first U.S. secretary of state to visit the capital of Libya for over 50 years. During the talks, the two sides discussed means of boosting bilateral relations as well as African and Arab issues, including the U.S. role in solving African crises, especially in the Sudanese region of Darfur.
Later on Saturday, Rice, who is also the first U.S. top diplomat to pay a visit to Tunisia since Colin Powell in 2003, is scheduled to hold talks with Tunisian officials.
The United States will give technical assistance to the Tunisian army as the two countries have long-standing "strategic" ties, it was reported.
Following hours stay in Tunisia, Rice will en route go to Algeria and Morocco, she is also scheduled to stop in Senegal before heading back to the U.S., MENA said. Source: Xinhua
