U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who is now on a north Africa tour, held talks with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and Foreign Minister Mourad Medelci on Saturday afternoon.
The talks were held at the Algerian presidential palace, shortly after the arrival of Rice in Algiers.
Rice's talks with Algerian officials would deal with cooperation between the two countries, the fight against extremists, and the situation in the Middle East as well as international issues, local media reported before the meeting took place.
Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs Mourad Medelci, Diplomatic Adviser to the President of Algeria, Abdellatif Rahal, and Algeria's ambassador to the United States, Lamine Kherbi, attended the talks, along with U.S. Ambassador to Algiers David Pearce.
Rice arrived here for several hours' stay within the framework of a tour in the Maghreb countries, which has taken her to Libya and Tunis. She is to go to Morocco later in the day.
