The Africa Union (AU) observer mission for Angola's parliamentary elections here on Monday called on Angola's political parties and coalitions for respecting the results of the elections.
Benjamin Bounkoulou, head of the AU observer mission, declared at a press conference that Angola's "electoral process was transparent, free and went in line with the African Union's standards."
He congratulated the Angolan people on the maturity showed during the elections, highlighting the active participation of youths and women in the voting.
"We are much surprised for the determination of the Angolan people in exercising their voting and especially for the strong mobilization of the youths and women that constitute the majority of the electorate," he said.
He added that he believes the mistakes made in this election, like the delayed opening of polling stations, will be corrected.
The AU official also considered the task of his mission as having been honest, independent, impartial and objective.
