Eight African immigrants were arrested for committing violence after the killing of a Senegalese man in southern Spain, police said Monday.
Violence first broke out early Sunday after a 28-year-old Senegalese man was stabbed to death by a Romani Spaniard in Roquetas de Mar town in what police said a dispute between drug traffickers. But locals said the man was trying to mediate in a debt dispute.
Enraged African immigrants then burned two houses supposedly belonging to relatives of the person, who killed the Senegalese man but was at large. Many cars were also set on fire, and police were attacked.
Police said they were trying to capture the suspected killer.
Police also said they arrested eight Africans committing violence, who are from Guinea-Bissau, Senegal, Nigeria and Sudan.
Around one-third of the inhabitants in Roquetas de Mar are immigrants, and many of them work in the agricultural sector.
