Angola's main opposition party the National Union of the Total Independence of Angola (UNIYA) has admitted its defeat in the September 5 parliamentary elections.

Isaias Samakuva, president of the UNITA, told reporters on Monday evening that "at a time about 80 percent of the total valid votes have been counted, despite all that happened, UUNITA leadership accepts the results of the elections and wishes the winning party to rule to the interest of all Angolans."

The UNITA leader also praised the voters for their active participation and civism and thanked those voting for UNITA.

But he did not mention its Luanda electoral counting contestation lodged with the National Electoral Commission (CNE).

According to the latest results, the ruling party the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) still takes the lead in the elections gaining 4.1 million votes, or 81.73 percent of the total.

UNITA comes second with 523,772 votes, or 10.38 percent.
