An oil service boat with 13 people aboard, including five foreigners, were hijacked Tuesday by gunmen in south Nigeria, according to agencies' reports.

The incidents occurred on a river in the oil-rich but restive Niger Delta, said the reports.

The unrest in the oil-rich region, featuring kidnapping of oil workers and sabotage on oil facilities, is believed to be a result of local people's frustration that most of them live in poverty and their land is polluted when huge oil wealth is produced under their feet.
