Egypt on Tuesday welcomes the Arab League (AL) forming a committee to follow up peace talks between the Sudanese government and the rebel movements in the western Darfur region.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit said, following the formation of the committee that faces challenges ahead, intensified efforts are required to render the peace talks a success, according to Egypt's MENA news agency.
Arab foreign ministers, who attended the 130th ordinary session of the Arab League Council on Monday, discussed intensively the Darfur issue during the meeting, said Abul Gheit.
Earlier in the day, State Minister at the Sudanese Foreign Ministry Ali Ahmed Karti said the Arab foreign ministers decided to form an Arab committee to sponsor the peace talks between Khartoum and rebel movements in Darfur.
More than ten thousand people have been reportedly killed and millions of others displaced in the five-year-long conflict in Darfur.
