Togolese President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe on Monday issued a decree to announce the formation of a new government.
The government consists of new Prime Minister Gilbert Fossoun Houngbo and 27 ministers.
Six more posts were added in the new government and 15 ministers in the previous government were retained in office, among them, three were appointed to new posts.
Ministers of some key ministries such as ministry of economy and finance, ministry of mines, energy and water resources and ministry of agriculture, animal breeding and fisheries stayed on their previous posts.
Komlan Mally, the prime minister in the previous government who tendered his resignation on Sept. 5, stayed in the new government and was appointed minister of state and health minister. He was appointed prime minister on Dec. 3, 2007.
Leopold Messan Gnininvi, the minister of state and foreign and regional integration minister in the previous government, stayed on the post of state minister and was also appointed minister of industry, handicraft and technological innovation.
Kofi Esaw, the Togolese ambassador to the African Union, is the new foreign minister.
The new government is expected to strive to revitalize national economy, step up economic and administrative reform, achieve national reconciliation, and promote democracy, legal framework and good governance.
Togo, a west African nation, has been plagued by political turmoil and economic crises since the 1990s. In 2006, a formal agreement aimed at ending political and economic turbulence in the country was signed in Lome.
