The Kenyan government on Sunday decried increasing cases of piracy along the coast of Somalia and called for global efforts to avert the menace.

Kenyan Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka also raised concern over the increased insecurity in Somalia and appealed to the international community to intervene and save the country from further deterioration and secure international water passage.

Musyoka who spearheaded reconciliation efforts that culminated into the formation of the transitional government of Somalia regretted that Kenya has fallen victim of the crisis despite that it brokered a peace deal for Somalia.

"It is sad that Kenya is a victim of pirates, having lost very important defense cargo off the shores of Somalia," he lamented in a statement issued from his office.

He said Kenya will not be at peace so long as the neighboring country was not at peace.
