Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak held talks on Saturday with visiting French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner on the latest regional and international developments.
They discussed the conditions in the Middle East, particularly the ongoing Egyptian mediation efforts for the resumption of a comprehensive inter-Palestinian dialogue, the state MENA news agency reported.
During the talks, Kouchner briefed his recent visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories and his talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit told a joint press conference with Kouchner after the meeting.
They tackled the foreign ministerial meeting to be held in November on the Union for the Mediterranean that is initiated by France and co-chaired by Egypt and France, Abul Gheit said.
They also reviewed the current situation in Lebanon, Afghanistan, the Gulf region, Iranian nuclear file and Sudan's Darfur crisis, added the Egyptian foreign minister.
Kouchner said Mubarak's planned visit to France on Oct. 29 reflects good ties between the two countries.
On the Lebanese issue, Kouchner said his country has been assured that the deployment of Syrian troops on the border with Lebanon didn't target Lebanon.
