Water ministers of Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia urged Saturday the three Eastern Nile Basin countries to promote cooperation among them for joint ventures investment, the Egyptian state MENA news agency reported.
At the end of the 25th session of the Eastern Nile Basin countries' ministerial council, the ministers said it's important to find sources for funding the joint ventures among them which need about 30 billion dollars' investments.
Egyptian Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mahmoud Abu-Zeid noted that foreign investments in Ethiopia would not affect Egypt's Nile water quota, saying they have decided to form a technical body to review water needs of the member states.
On Friday, Abu-Zeid said Egypt is negotiating with Sudan and Ethiopia to increase its annual quota of Nile water by 11 billion cubic meters.
The two-day meetings, kicked off Friday in Cairo, is meant to discuss means of promoting cooperation and regional developments of the Eastern Nile Basin countries. Source: Xinhua
