South Africa said on Tuesday that it will host a regional summit on the current situation in Zimbabwe at the weekend, agencies reported.

Reuters quoted Ronnie Mamoepa, spokesman for the foreign ministry of South Africa, as saying that the meeting, to be held on Sunday, will also focus on the Democratic Republic of Congo, where fighting has intensified in recent weeks between government forces (FARDC) and the militia, known as the National Congress for the Defense of the People (CNDP), led by former general Laurent Nkunda, in North Kivu province which borders Rwanda and Uganda.

The ruling and opposition parties in Zimbabwe formally signed a power-sharing deal in September which was expected to end the political crisis in the country.

Since then, the rivals have been negotiating the allocation of ministries among them. So far they have not reached consensus onit.
