Arab League (AL) Secretary General Amr Moussa said Monday that he is considering to call for an emergency meeting of Arab foreign ministers to review the Middle East peace process, particularly the Palestinian issue.

The development of the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks is high on the agenda of the meeting, Moussa was quoted by the Egyptian MENA news agency as saying.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will be invited to attend the meeting to review his talks with the international Quartet on Sunday in Egypt's Red Sea resort Sharm el-Sheikh.

Moussa said he is approaching the parties concerned to set an appropriate date for the meeting.

On Sunday, the Quartet, which groups the United States, the European Union, the United Nations and Russia, gathered in Sharm el-Sheikh to evaluate the latest developments of the Mideast peace process.

During the meeting, Abbas and Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni briefed the Quartet developments of the Palestinian-Israeli talks.

Both Palestinian and Israeli officials promised to carry on the peace negotiations although a deal is not likely to be reached by the end of this year, a target set by both sides during a U.S.-hosted Mideast conference a year ago.

As for a delayed Palestinian national unity dialogue, Moussa said the issue "is still in the Egyptians' hands."

On Saturday, Egypt decided to put off the Palestinian dialogue to an undetermined date after Hamas informed Cairo that it will not show up in the meeting.
