The world's acclaimed second richest man and founder of Microsoft Bill Gates is billed to visit Nigeria early next year, if all arrangements to that effect succeed, the News Agency of Nigeria reported Tuesday.

Gates attended the Government Leaders Forum for Africa held at Cape Town in South Africa in 2006 and is expected to attend the Forum scheduled for Abuja from Feb. 4 to Feb. 8. next year.

The American would use the opportunity to boost Microsoft's ongoing effort to foster social and economic well-being of the continent.

Also expected at the forum are African heads of government, the private sector and representatives of government agencies saddled with the responsibility of implementing ICT policies.

Nigeria's Minister for Information and Communications John Odey inaugurated Monday in Abuja a seven-man committee for the forum headed by Gerald Ilukwe, managing director of Galaxy Backbone. The Minister said the choice of Nigeria as host was predicated on the recognition of the country's achievement in ICT development.

He said Nigeria is the fastest growing telecoms market in Africa and is a favorable destination for investors in ICT, adding that the forum will no doubt project Nigeria in the context of national brand, as a dynamic, forward-looking environment that recognizes the role of ICT in national development.
