Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said on Sunday that his country has "a determined and undaunted will" to carry out its peaceful nuclear program, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported.
Egypt is determined to go ahead with its ambitious nuclear program for the peaceful use, especially in generating electricity, Mubarak told a joint session of the Shura Council (upper house of the parliament) and the People's Assembly (lower house).
A draft law is expected to be referred to the parliament during the current legislative session to hammer out the legislative framework for nuclear programs, Mubarak said.
Meanwhile, Egypt is in contacts with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and friendly countries to seek international cooperation on the nuclear program, added the president.
Last October, Mubarak launched a plan to establish nuclear plants to meet increasing energy demands in the populous Arab country.
Egypt's first nuclear power plant was expected to be built at Dabba on the Mediterranean coast, west of the main harbor of Alexandria, some 220 km northwest of Cairo. Source: Xinhua
