An archeological survey is requested on the human bones found at the weekend in Bukavu, South Kivu Province, of the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to the local authority.
Alexandre Dunia, an official of the local Ibanda community, told state television that the macabre finding could be traced back to years before 1960, when the country, previously known as Zaire, gained independence from Belgium in 1960.
More than 2,000 human skeletons were discovered on Sunday at a residence in the Ibanda community, the RTNC television reported.
The finding includes cubitus, femurs and tibiae, without skulls. Dunia said an archeological survey is needed to fix the date of the decomposition of those victims.
